The 2016 Presidential election cycle was in a word, unique. With over 20 major candidates competing for the highest office in the land, the eventual winner had never held a political office. Finding mementoes that represented the political process turned reality show was difficult, to say the least. After Donald Trump began touting his wall on the Mexican border, I encountered a Trump piñata while I was in California. I passed on it because I thought it would be too difficult to carry onto the flight home.
Instead of the piñata, I opted for some Donald Trump toilet paper. It fit into my carry-on. Later in the year, as the campaign turned mean, I picked up a Trump bobble-finger doll!
I did manage to obtain a traditional election souvenir, a podium placard Trump used during a speech in Columbus, Ohio.
