Memorabilia – Collecting the News

Politics

Since its debut in 1980, CNN has covered 10 U.S. presidential election cycles and 10 additional mid-term elections. These events have provided many historical moments. This section contains items collected during those moments.

Conflict

One of the most challenging assignments for news crews is operating in conflict zones. Situations are routinely dangerous and physically demanding. The demanding conditions severely limit the ability to collect items that document the events. This section contains objects that illustrate some of the difficulties encountered in working in zones of conflict.

Natural Disasters

There are no more dramatic images on television than those captured during natural disasters. This section includes objects that were acquired while covering those disasters.

Breaking News

Television is at its best when breaking news occurs. Large audiences stay glued to broadcasts while captivating images flash across their screens. This section features relics that relate to those dramatic stories.

Features

Long before “talking heads” dominated television news, programming was filled with feature material. From documentaries to 90-second shorts, these were planned stories that highlighted important people, places or events. This section spotlights items related to those features.

Miscellaneous

This section will be a catchall for collected memorabilia that doesn’t fit into all the other categories.
