These posters were displayed on newspaper stands in downtown London after NATO forces started Operation Deliberate Freedom on August 30, 1995. The operation involved 400 aircraft, 5,000 personnel from fifteen nations.
NATO and United Nations forces decided to use airstrikes against the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) to stop Serb troops from attacking “safe areas” in Bosnia. The action was taken after the Bosnian Serb Army massacred 8,000 Bosnian Muslim civilians in Srebrenica (in July 1995) and conducted a mortar attack on the Markale Marketplace in downtown Sarajevo, killing 43 civilians and wounding another 75 (on August 28, 1995).
Over 1,000 bombs, mostly laser-guided, were used in the operation.
