According to WMUR’s website, it was the first station in the country to develop a significant internet presence, beginning in October of 1995. It also claimed to be the first station to hire a full-time employee dedicated to streaming its newscasts live and archiving them online for later viewing. WMUR also used the internet to supplement its broadcast product. It has been reported that when the station first posted a 3D virtual tour of its studio, it briefly became the most visited attraction on the web.
During the 2000 “First in the Nation” primary, WMUR, WMUR.com, and CNN simulcast the debates held at the television station’s studios. Promoters said it was the first widely publicized and executed worldwide live streaming video event of its kind.
