Cruise Missile Fragments

Categories: ,

Description

These fragments of metal debris were parts of Cruise missiles that exploded over Baghdad during the First Gulf War in 1991. They were collected by the CNN crew that was embedded in the Iraqi capital during Operation Desert Storm. The majority of the pieces were the result of missile strikes hitting the Iraqi Convention Center, sending fragments across the street, into the courtyard of the Al Rasheed Hotel where CNN was broadcasting from during the conflict. The remainder were gathered while the crew was outside the hotel, collecting elements for news coverage as the war progressed.
