This is one of the primary posters used by the Hillary Clinton campaign during her run for the presidency in 2008.

Description

It was seen at almost all of her rallies as she sought to become the Democratic nominee. She would ultimately fall short to Sen. Barack Obama in a tightly contested race. The sign is 17”X11” and features the candidate’s first name displayed in large white letters across the front, followed by the words: for president, allon a blue background. Across the bottom it has the website address of HillaryClinton.com. Above the web address is a stylized banner with three white stars, two red stripes and one white stripe, representing the American flag.

These signs were handed out by campaign staff at the rallies and provided the visuals the campaign wanted the public to see during coverage of the events on the evening news. After the rallies, members of the audience would line up and try to meet the candidate, often attempting to get her to sign one of the posters as a memento of the occasion.

During our coverage of the campaign, I would often arrive at an event site early in the day and set up for live shots with a reporter before the candidate arrived. We would do live “hits” until the candidate got to the location, and then take portions of the speech. The candidate would leave, but we would remain at the site and do more live shots until the political programing was over. (Unless other news broke and another location was appropriate.)

I got this Hillary poster, signed by Bill Clinton, after an event. He had joined her on the campaign trail to lend his support. The crowd had left the building, and I went down on the main floor to find some signage to add to my collection. I saw several posters on the ground near the main riser and picked them up. Workers were putting other signs around the area into the trash. To my amazement, this one was signed by the former president of the United States, and, instead of going into the trash, I kept it for the collection.
