Kuwait – Iraq License Plate:

In 1990, after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, he decided to call it the 19th province (prior to that time Iraq consisted of 18 provinces). After the invasion, if you wanted to register your vehicle in Kuwait, you were required to replace the old Kuwaiti plates with newly designed Iraqi/ Kuwaiti plates.

They were manufactured in the traditional Iraqi style, with the registration numbers across the top. On the left lower panel it says “Kuwait” , while on the right it says “Iraq”. They measure 7″ X 13″ and feature black letters on a white background. The plates are fairly rare because Kuwait was liberated in early 1991, which made them obsolete. They were.immediately replaced by new Kuwaiti plates. The artifact in the collection was found in Kuwait in 1991.
